Since the creation of the Nikhef Postdoc Committee in 2021, by Andrea Garc\u00eda Alonso and Suzanne Klaver, different events have been organised for all the Nikhef postdocs.<\/p>\n

A summary of the editions that have taken place so far is shown in the text that follows.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

1st Postdoc Jamboree – 20th April 2022<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

First time the Nikhef postdocs got together and met each other. Dinner and drinks in the city of Utrecht.<\/p>\n

2nd Postdoc Jamboree – 7th October 2022<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Outdoors laser tag and dinner in Amsterdam, together with a discussion about teaching and supervision during the postdoc time.<\/p>\n

3rd Postdoc Jamboree – 24th February 2023<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Q&A session in Amsterdam Science Park with a panel of staff members from Nikhef and UvA.<\/p>\n

Answers were given to doubts related to our careers: teaching and supervising possibilities, advice and information; future career requirements and must-do choices; preparation for next positions, etc.<\/p>\n

4th Postdoc Jamboree – 16th May 2023<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

During the 2023 Nikhef Jamboree, the postdocs gathered for dinner and commented on a new idea of creating contact lists of senior researchers. These lists would be a tool for Nikhef postdocs to seek advice in various situations.<\/p>\n

These advanced researchers would agree to be listed on the Nikhef webpage, and postdocs could reach out to them for help with a grant draft or invite them to a rehearsal before a job interview.<\/p>\n

The lists would include their names, contacts, and job descriptions to provide insight into their areas of expertise. Even if they are UvA teachers we don’t personally know, we could still contact them and benefit from their experience and knowledge.<\/p>\n

Before moving forward, we would like to gauge the interest of the rest of the postdocs and to then reach out to Stan and begin an official process.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

5th Postdoc Jamboree – 14th February 2024<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

In February 2024, the Postdoc Jamboree took the format of a workshop on how to be a good supervisor, given by an external coach: Louise Mennen, at the electron room, at Nikhef.<\/p>\n

This session lasted 4 hours dedicated to teach us how to improve our supervising skills, mainly oriented towards the supervision of bachelor and master students and PhDs, but also to any other kind of workmates we need to supervise or coordinate. The goal was not to learn how to organise and set a project and its responsibilities, but to learn social and psychological skills to lead in an efficient and effective way.<\/p>\n

Afterwards there was a bowling social activity.<\/p>\n

6th Postdoc Jamboree – 10th December 2024<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

This Postdoc Jamboree led to the preparation of a document by the Postdoc Council, where all the opinions of postdoc regarding the postdoc experience at Nikhef were summarised and ideas for improvement were proposed.<\/p>\n

7th Postdoc Jamboree – 14th April 2025<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Event together with the PhD council: “Life after Academia,” where former Nikhef PhDs and Postdocs returned to discuss their transition into industry and answer questions from current PhDs and Postdocs.<\/p>\n

8th Postdoc Jamboree – 19th May 2025<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Event during the Nikhef Jamboree, together with the Nikhef PhD Council.<\/p>\n

introduction + updates from the councils<\/strong>: 5′ presentation from the PhD Council and 5′ presentation from the PD Council.<\/p>\n

discussion session<\/strong> about the PD and PhD experience at Nikhef, point out problems\/suggestions, (similar to 6th Postdoc Jamboree).<\/p>\n

PhD council shares some PhD data<\/strong> that was collected on PhD duration and contract and other sensitive topics.<\/p>\n

9th Postdoc Jamboree – 11th November 2025<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Panel Discussion on Funding & Grants (16:00 – 17:00\/17:30 at Nikhef) We host a panel of experts to discuss funding mechanisms in our field and grant proposal strategies and advices.<\/p>\n

Excellent opportunity to ask questions, learn about different funding pathways, and gain insights into preparing competitive grant applications.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
